On 1st October 2016, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura (Director,VIS) shared her experiences of the Educational visit to Finland with the teachers of Venkateshwar International School.
She discussed the Finnish Educational system and shared her practical experience and observations of Finnish schools. The Finnish consider their students as their National Heritage. The Finnish educational system focuses on socio-emotional, language, physical and motor development. Vocational studies lays emphasis on learning of different professions like stitching, carpentery, claywork, basket weaving etc. With the aim of ‘less is more’ schooling in Finland starts at the age of 7.
BALA (Building as learning Aid) concept is also incorp orated in the schools. The walls and staircases of the school’s building were projected as learning aids. The Director emphasized that theme based learning should be extended till class V. All the students should be treated equally and ICT should be integrated with other subjects. Overall, it was and enriching and thought provoking workshop which inspired the teachers to imbibe the finnish principles in their curriculum.
