Guest Lecture Programme by the Literary Club

The Literary Club of Venkateshwar International School organised a guest lecture programme in the school auditorium on 27 July 2018. Dr. Giti Chandra was invited to deliver a talk on the intricacies of creative writing. She is currently an Affiliated Scholar at the United Nations University – Reykjavik, Iceland. She has been teaching as the Faculty of English Literature, University of Iceland over the last two years, and was Associate Professor at the Department of English, St Stephen’s College, Delhi. She is the author of the best selling Book of Guardians Trilogy which has two books so far: the “Fang of Summoning” and the “Bones of Stars.” 

The programme commenced with the club members reading out their works, followed by the presentation of the club progress report. The guest was mesmerized by the talent displayed by the students. Dr Chandra talked about young adult fantasy and the nuances of creative writing, the challenges she has faced as a writer, her experiences as an academic and her journey as a writer of two best selling novels. Quoting her personal experience and years of experience, she made the session one to remember. It was an enriching session for all the members of the club and everyone took a lot back from the workshop.

    Summer Tinkering Fest – 2018

    The Atal Tinkering Lab at VIS hosted an International event – The Summer Tinkering Fest 2018 on 24 July 2018. It was a two day event where schools from in and around Dwarka participated. Mentors and educators from STEM education USA went beyond the pen and paper to conduct a workshop for the students, educating them in the intricacies of robotics and innovation. This enriching session was followed by hands-on experience for the students where they worked in teams to build models and solutions using present day technologies. The second day saw the students exhibiting their creations and delivering presentations for the same. 

    All participants went back with a scintillating experience.

      On 23rd July, 2018 students of Class VII & IX had the privilege of meeting Mr. Christopher C. Doyle, a well-known author, hugely popular for his book ‘The Mahabharata Quest”.  Mr. Doyle is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.  He was here to promote his latest book ‘The Paatala Prophecy: Son of Bhrigu’.

      The students embarked on a mesmerizing journey with the author as he eloquently narrated his experience related to the mysteries of this world.  The author ignited the students’ curiosity by presenting surprising facts related to Mahabharata, the Egyptians and the Arctic ice caps.

      After the intriguing, fantasy enriched session, a trailer of the author’s new book ‘The Paatala Prophecy: Son of Bhrigu’ was showcased.  It thrilled the students and encouraged them to read the book in totality.  An interactive question answer session followed.

      It was a great experience for all!

        VIS held its Prize Distribution ceremony on 21 July 2018 in the school auditorium. The event was organized to felicitate the academic achievers of Class X and XII of the academic year 2017-18. The morning was graced by the presence of Professor B.L. Handoo, a renowned educationist and psychologist. The function commenced after the lamp lighting ceremony by Prof. B.L. Handoo accompanied by honorable Chairman Sir, Mr. Rajpal, Director and Founder Principal, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura and Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma.
        After a very soulful welcome song, the Annual Report was presented by the Director and Founder Principal, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura. The school felt immense pride as the result was star-studded. This was followed by the first segment of the Prize Distribution.

        Prof. Handoo was keenly involved as he indulged in conversation with each one of the prize winners while felicitating them. The students were quite happy to get to interact with Prof. Handoo. After the first segment of awards, the school dancers presented a beautiful choreography depicting Radha and Meera’s eternal devotion for Lord Krishna. The impressive performance received a thunderous applause. The event continued with the next segment awarding the Class X toppers wherein the first rank was shared by four students. The award and medals were given away by the dignitaries.  The students and parents were proud of their exemplary performance.

        Post the second and the last segment of awards, the audience was left astounded by the theatrical display of the talented students. The dance-drama emphasized on the importance of education in one’s lives. 
        The morning concluded with a vote of thanks presented by the Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma. The event was a significant one as it saw the participation of students on a large scale and the students showcased their talent in a truly remarkable way! The school had an incredible result which was the outcome of hard work put together by students and teachers.

          On 5 July and 18 July 2018, two delegations from Netherlands visited Venkateshwar International School, Sector-10, Dwarka under the ‘Global Exploration Programme.’ The eventful day began with a sonorous Prayer followed by the welcome address given by the Honourable Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma who shed light on the ever strengthening bond between the Global Exploration team members of both the schools.  An awe-inpiring presentation showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage left the audience spell bound.  The cultural programme comprised ‘Anand Tandav’ and electrifying ‘Jazz dance.’  The delegates also had a brain storming session with Class XI students on the economy of both countries.  They also got an opportunity to see various Indian instruments and learn Indian music and Punjabi dance.  The day long camp culminated with a rejuvenating yoga session.  It was really a memorable experience.

            Mount Carmel School, Dwarka, held an inter school computer symposium “Haywire” on 17 July 2018. Around 20 schools participated in the competition. The event witnessed an outstanding exposition of talent and creativity as young aspiring IT professionals displayed their “Tech-knowledge” in the various categories like Battle Bots, C++ Programming, Cryptic Hunt and Gaming. 

            VIS students Aashray Arya (XII SD) and Abhishek Kumar (XII SD) bagged the second prize in Programming. They received a cash prize of `1500 and gaming coupons worth `300!

              Summer Internship@IIIT Delhi

              Information technology took a robust swing as the world stepped into the 21st century. Fields such as computer science, robotics, machinery, communications etc became salient features of the growing world. Innovations and advancement in these disciplines paved the way for a revolutionarised system of international exchanges and businesses.

              A group of 11 students of class XI studying computer science got a precious opportunity to attend a week-long summer internship at the innovation incubation centre of the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Delhi from 4-12th of June, 2018.
              Each day presented a new topic of discussion for the students and they got the privilege to have hands-on-experience on some of the latest computer technology and softwares.
              On the first day, the students were warmly welcomed and introduced to the campus, their courses and curriculum. They then moved to the computer lab where they were acquainted with the basics of application development. The following days students got exposure to Arduino, image analysis and its applications, mobile communications and broadband, autonomous or self-driven vehicles, Human-Computer Interaction and Human Robot Interaction. 

              Students were given participation certificates and mugs as mementos. The group was encouraged to apply their new learning to fruitful use and enhance their knowledge in IT through this enriching workshop.

                In the prestigious JSTS Examination held on 28 January 2018, Six meritorious students of our school secured a rank in top 150 students all over Delhi.

                The Science Talent Search Exam was conducted by Science Branch of GNCT. of Delhi, saw an overwhelming participation of various prominent schools of Delhi – NCR.

                Manas Singla of X RV was the highest scorer with 159 marks and secured 2nd rank.

                    On 26th and 30th June, School Director & Founder Principal, Ms Mrinalini Kaura conducted a workshop on Class Management for the teachers of Venkateshwar International School. The workshop started out with establishing the difference between discipline and class management. It went on to listing the few factors responsible for lack of class management and then ways to counter these problematic class room situations. The teachers were pleasantly surprised to note how a slight change in strategy could yield far better results in class management.
                    The teachers had a pleasant time emulating students' roles, classroom situations and participated in role plays which highlighted how to combat indiscipline in class.
                    The two tier session culminated with filling up of a form which helped teachers identify their teacher-personality traits.
                    The workshop witnessed healthy participation by teachers as they shared personal anecdotes pertaining to the concerned aspect of class management.

                      The school’s maiden Alumni Meet – VISAA 2018 was held on 30 June 2018 in the school premises. The meet commenced with a very warm welcome accorded to honourable Director, Ms. Mrinalini Kaura, special guests and the alumni by the Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma. She welcomed them to their second home, their ‘alma mater’. This was followed by interesting ice breaking games and a wonderful cultural programme put up by the teachers – the highlight of which was a ‘Fashion Show’ with a twist.
                      The alumni expressed their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to their teachers for being the wind beneath their wings. They were catapulted into their glorious school days through a movie which showcased the variegated moments from their past. It was a pleasure for the teachers to meet all the former students of the institution. 
                      The Director, Ms. Mrinalini Kaura, expressed her happiness and joy on meeting the alumni and interacting with them. Everyone present was nostalgic. The programme culminated with a promise to meet again. A high tea was organized in honour of the alumni. The event was a grand success.
