World No Tobacco Day Awareness Programmes@VIS

World No Tobacco Day was celebrated at VIS with various online sessions being conducted for the students and by the students!

Students of class XII organised a Peer Moderating Session with the students of class Xth . The theme of this year was "Protecting Youth from Industry Manipulation" and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use. The session was very interactive and fruitful.

An Online session of  Dr Hansa Kundu, state Consultant, NTCP, Delhi with Parents and Students of Class IX.  The students were strongly educated not to get wooed into the webs of advertisements or into any other indirect approach that would trap them into habits of smoking in any form. Parents too had shared their experiences on the ill effects of this habit.  The session concluded with a plea to the students to become Warriors for the anti tobacco campaign during this lockdown period, and create strong awareness in the community.

Ms. Shivani Rawat, Physical Education Teacher, Class XII students Sanjana Khajuria and Siddhant Singh conducted an online session with ZP govt. school, Pune,Maharashtra. They interacted with kids enthusiastically educating them about the ill effects of smoking.

    Great Accolades for VIS Student!

    Anushka Bansal, a student of class 12 Daisydale, has successfully published a poetry anthology, 'Unfurl.' The book aims to highlight issues of social relevance through teenage experiences. Anushka plans to distribute 200 copies of her book pro-bono across NGOs in Delhi; thus, using poetry as a tool to make social awareness accessible to people from all sections of the society.

    Her book has been professionally reviewed by seven renowned authors, critics, and poets from across the world and has been published by Rachna Sagar Publications. In the words of Simar Malhotra (best-selling author of There is a Tide and founding curator of Inkpot Conclave India), "Anushka is able to grip the reader in an emotional whirlwind, her words haunting them till much after the page is turned."

    Anushka has been writing poems since she was ten, and wishes to stir social change through her writing. We wish her the best of luck for all her future endeavours!

      Online Legal Literacy Workshop

      VIS held an online workshop with Mr. Rahul Budhraja, senior advocate in the Honourable Delhi High Court on the topic “Misuse of Social Media” for students of classes XI and XII. The workshop was an interactive one. Mr. Rahul enlightened students about the Information Act, implications of various legal cases regarding abuse of social media like the boys locker room, cyber stalking and cyber bullying. VIS students were completely enthralled during the workshop. They posed various queries regarding cyber security and privacy, all of which were patiently answered by Mr. Rahul. It was a highly enriching workshop.

        Online - VIS ThinkTank Congress 2020
        VIS Biology department under the guidance of HOS Dr.Manisha Sharma conducted an "Online - VIS ThinkTank Congress 2020". The main theme of the event was "Epidemics - Its impact on youngsters". Mrs Aru and Ms. Nivedita Náitháni coordinated this event along with class XI - XII students. The topics under the theme were "Pandemic lockdowns cast a long shadow on mental health amongst youngsters", "Pandemics: Mistakes of the past, problems of the future" and "Physical Health". Participating students expressed their views in a very scientific way after lots of research. Overall it was a great experience for our students.

          To engage our students in a constructive reflection on current and forthcoming challenges during this lockdown period, VIS conducted various intra-class online competitions for the students of middle wing to make the best possible use of this period and reflect constructively on their thoughts and ideas.

            Time to Unwind
            On May 5 2020, our English teacher Ms. Monica Kamra organized a yoga session to rejuvenate students of class X and give the textbooks a rest. They witnessed live demonstration of various yogasanas of which Surya Namaskar, Halasan and Chakrasan are a few to name. The session was not limited to simply Yoga but also involved an intense workout of planks and jumping jacks and later wrapped up with relaxation breathing techniques. The session was quite informative and refreshing as it helped the learners to refresh their body, mind and soul and break the monotonous quarantine routine. The students welcomed the session and participated with utmost zeal.

              Labour Day@VIS

              VIS CONCLAVE- A PANORAMIC VIEW OF THE PANDEMIC

              Highlighting the significance of LABOUR DAY, VIS salutes all sanitation workers in the frontline for their valuable service.

              In dealing with the PANDEMIC, it is essential to reflect and ponder about how it effects all segments of the society. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Manisha Sharma and the students of Class IX along with the Biology teachers, Ms Nivedita N and Ms Aru. This conclave gave an opportunity to students to collaborate and research for information relating to COVID 19.  Meaningful inputs were given by students to help us to combat the challenges of the pandemic. Aaditya Khurana created a website which provides authentic data relating to Corona Virus Infection. Both students, Aaditya and Harivansh Mehta, are actively involved in conducting a survey to assess the impact of lockdown on students. It was also emphasised that we recognise the selfless service of the frontline warriors. The meeting was concluded with the valuable reflections of Ms. Nivedita N, that our focus should be towards finding solutions to the many challenges that we face due to the pandemic.
