On 23rd February 2015, all teachers of VIS from Classes III – XII attended a fitness workshop . The resource person was Mr. Vikas Soni a fitness and nutrition expert assisted by Ms. Sonia. The first part of the workshop was conducted in the auditorium and dealt with a talk on the components and benefits of a balanced diet. Mr. Vikas answered a lot of questions put forth by the enthusiastic audience and dispelled the popular myths behind many food fads. The second part of the workshop was conducted in the school grounds where Mr. Vikas led the teachers in a simple 20 minute workout session which they could easily incorporate in their hectic life styles. On their request, he also guided them in the steps of ‘Surya Namaskar’. In all, it was a very informative and beneficial workshop.

    Sheya Basak of class XI Riverdale, Venkateshwar International School was the proud recipient of the Special Award in the second India Korea Friendship Essay Competition 2014. She was feted with a trophy and cash prize at the Embassy of Republic of Korea by H. E. Joon-gyu Lee, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea. She competed for the coveted position amongst 212 participating schools and nearly 3000 participants from 25 states of India.

        In the Annual Inter – School Science Fest “Innovations” held on 5 – 6 February 2015 at Venkateshwar Global School, Rohini, our students did us proud by bagging the Rolling Trophy. They won various prizes in the following events.

        1.    Model Display for Classes VI – VIII on the topic “Smart waste Disposal and Smart Communication” – 2nd  Prize
        2.    Model Display for Classes IX – X on the topic  “Rejuvenating Rivers of India” – 2nd  Prize

            On 27 – 29 January 2015 CBSE Regional level Science exhibition was held in Ved Vyasa D.A.V Public School, Vikas Puri. Our school students Milind Agarwal and Ishika Gupta of X Rockview under the able guidance of their mentor Ms. Nivedita Naithani participated in the exhibition. They made an exhibit on the theme “Energy Resources and Conservation.” Their model was PS  - Green Tech. It got selected for CBSE National level Exhibition. Their model was appreciated a lot by the judges for innovation in energy conservation and user friendly therapeutic devices.


              Manesar Trip

              A two day trip to Manesar was organized for the staff of Venkateshwar International School on 31 January - 01 February 2015, which was a welcome break from the normal routine. The first halt was at the Om Shanti Retreat Centre of the Brahmakumaris where the staff members participated in a workshop conducted by Sister Husain on the topic: “Harmonising Relationships” which was followed by a short meditation’ session. This was followed by a tour of the sprawling lush green campus and lunch at the Centre. Post lunch the group reached Heritage Resorts, Manesar at 4 pm. The evening festivities started shortly after tea. Team building games were organized where colleagues from different departments bonded with one another. The trip was very rejuvenating as it not only fostered the spirit of bonhomie and camaraderie at all levels but also provided the much required respite from the daily routine.

                On January 28, 2015, an all girls team of 14 members conducted a workshop on Gender Stereotyping under the able guidance of Dr. Reetu Srivastava. The workshop focussed on the following issues:-
                a)    Meaning of gender and sex
                b)    Gender stereotyping in society
                c)    The typical careers for men and women as perceived by society
                d)    Causes of gender stereotyping
                This was followed by a video presentation of people who broke the traditional stereotypes. Further, there was an interactive session with the Director, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura and Vice Principal, Dr. Mrs. Manisha Sharma. This workshop concluded with the recitation of the poem ‘Still I Rise’, written by Maya Angilou which clearly brought out the message of respect towards women.

                  A workshop on knitting was conducted for the students of Class V by ‘Woolmark’ Services India Private Ltd.’ in which the resource person Ms. Sonali Priyadarshini and Technical Manager Mr. Surojit Basak enlightened the students about the journey of Wool from farm to fashion followed by the art of knitting through a presentation. Students were also made aware about the versatility and qualities of wool, being a renewable and bio-degradable product, skin friendly a natural barrier to UV, keeping us cool in hot weather conditions and warm and cozy in the cold weather. The students were also provided with a pair of knitting needle and yarn. The students enthusiastically knitted small mufflers. It was a wonderful and a memorable experience for them.
