April 29th marked the day when the Model United Nations Conference rose for the first time in Venkateshwar International School with the theme “Veritas Vos Liberabit…the truth shall make you free’. The conference brought together over 300 delegates from 10 different prestigious schools in Delhi and NCR to interact with each other, sharpen their negotiating skills and present solutions to global problems prevalent today. The discussions were spread across three conventional committees, namely the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Human Rights Council, the United Nations Security Council where issues like the ISIS, Labour rights and the Korean Peninsula situation were deliberated upon and three unconventional committees, namely the All India Political Parties Meet, Group of 20, Joint Crisis Committee wherein issues like the inter-party conflicts, global health epidemics and the Afghan invasion conflict between SVR and USA were mooted over gravely.

The expertise of the Executive Board only further added to the already nail-biting and exhilarating atmosphere inside the committees. While the delegates were occupied conducting research on their topics, the International Press members keenly observed and captured their every move. The confidence, pertinence and enthusiasm with which the delegates participated revealed their level of interest in contemporary issues that will continue to shape the future of global politics.

Adding another feather to the cap, the maiden MUN venture of VIS provided a dynamic platform to the students required today to become better scholars, thinkers and true diplomats and also witnessed formidable debates, diplomatic relations, formulated opinions and enticing curiosities in the course of these two days.

The highlights of the conference were the opening and closing ceremonies during which the distinguished delegates got an opportunity to hear motivational words by the honourable Director, who was also the chief guest of the event and the Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma who enthused the guests and boosted their morale. With the thump of the Secretary General’s gavel, the conference was declared open and closed.  The event culminated with the award ceremony, felicitating the delegation from Modern School, Barakhamba for Best Delegation.

In the past two years, the School had participated in various MUNs organised by schools and colleges in and around Delhi and had won numerous awards.  Besides participation, some students have also had opportunities to chair some renowned events as the Chairpersons. Without the dauntless efforts spanning over 5 months, of an effervescent Secretariat, this mega event would not have seen the light of the day. VISMUN has been the culmination of all these efforts, under the patronage and guidance of the school Director & Founder Principal, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura and the MUN Co-ordinator, Ms.Nishu Rathi.  ‘Big milestones are achieved with small steps.’ With VISMUN 2016, VIS has definitely taken the first baby step to take a big leap in its history of achieving more milestones.
