An Educational Trip to France

In the month of October, 9 students of VIS accompanied by their French teacher paid a visit to France on a 10 day educational trip. The students spent three days in Paris where they visited the Eiffel Tower, Louvre museum, L’Arc de triomphe, Sacré-Cœur to name a few with a guide and they acquired knowledge on these famous monuments. They also spent a whole day at “Le Parc d’Asterix”, an amusement park. After that they headed for Rouen, a French city where they attended 10 hours of extensive classes at Alliance française, Rouen. The students also experienced what it is like to stay with French families and to observe their day-to-day life style. During their stay they exchanged their knowledge on customs and cultures with the host families.
At the end the students received certificates from Alliance française. They also presented a cultural program in the event.
Overall, it was an enriching and fun filled experience for everyone.

    Trip to Jim Corbett

    Our School organised a three-day trip to Jim Corbett National Park for students of classes VI and VII who were accompanied by the Director (Academics),  Ms. Mrinalini Kaura, the Headmistress (Middle Wing), Ms. Meenakshi Malhotra and a team of teachers. 
    The trip provided students with several opportunities to strengthen camaraderie amongst them. They received exposure to wildlife and wilderness thriving in the dense forest cover of Uttrakhand during the Jungle Safari.  Students marvelled at the abundant exhibits displayed at the Jim Corbett National Museum.
    The visit to the water falls and banks of the Kosi River ignited their joie de vivre as they splashed themselves in the bubbling waters.  This was followed by a bus ride to the Girjiya Temple. Children let themselves loose on the DJ floor at the thumping beats of music on the DJ night. The group came back home with a bag full of memories to be cherished for a lifetime.

      Career Counselling - Hotel Management by Taj Group of Hotels

      On 21st October a workshop was organized in the school auditorium for the humanities and commerce students of classes 11th and 12th. The spokesperson was Ms. Debjani Banerjee. She represented the Taj Group of Hotels. The students were apprised of all the aspects of pursuing Hotel Management; the course, duration, scope, fee, structure and prospects. In the end she cleared all the queries that the students had and reduced their dilemma about taking up Hotel Management as a profession. This orientation nuanced the myriad of branches of Hotel Management for the students.

        Trophies and medals all the way! The students of VIS-10, Dwarka gave an outstanding performance at the World Scholar’s Cup, a two day international team academic programme held at Maxfort School, Dwarka and S.R. Auditorium on 20th October and 21st October 2016 respectively.

        The programme encompassed a diverse learning experience encouraging participants from over 50 schools to discover strengths and skills they never knew they had.  The event featured four exciting events:-

        Team Debate

        Scholar’s Bowl

        Collaborative writing

        Scholar’s Challenge

        In addition to these several social activities also took place which solidified the community aspect of the World Scholar’s cup.  Many of the 48 students participating in this event were selected for the Global Round to be held next year.  The overall medals tally stands at :

        12 Trophies, 80 Gold Medals and 130 Silver Medals

          Career Counselling by ANSAL University & Sushant School of Design

          An orientation seminar by Ansal University and Sushant School of Design was held on 19th October in the school auditorium. Amidst the conventional undergraduate courses that students usually go for, this university’s sole aim was to present the future scope of undergraduate courses.  The focus was laid on three courses namely: law, design and hotel management. The speakers were teachers at the university and their rhetoric capabilities brought in front of the gathering, a fresh new perspective on their respective fields.

            Knowledge Exchange Workshop By IIAD

            A very invigorating orientation session was organized on the 20th of October in the school auditorium by the representative faculty of the Indian Institute of Art and Design in collaboration with Kingston College London. An eager beaver of a person, the spokesperson Ms. Bhawna from IIAD enthralled the students with her witty references and animated videos. The upbeat university offers undergraduate BA Honours courses in Fashion Design, Communication Design and Interior Architecture with Design. Brochures of the Institute, feedback and application forms along with pens were distributed to the attendee students of classes XI and XII followed by a query answering session.  Emphasis was laid on the geometric development of growth in these fields and how these fields are the ones which will be the leading and top recruiting fields of tomorrow. As change is the only constant in life, to fuel the dormant minds of the majority of our youth towards innovation and broaden their repertoire of career choices, IIAD with dexterity changed the opinions and definitely gave voice to many hidden desires of students.

              The renowned educationist and psychologist Mrs. Jyotsana Bharadwaj was the resource person for the parenting workshop which addressed strategic issues of XI and XII students, namely – ‘Effective study skills’ and ‘Handling Examination Stress’, which was held on 15 October 2016.  She mulled on innovative ideas and strategies which could be adopted to enable effective learning and overcoming stress related impediments in a child’s development.  She emphasized that parents form an integral part in creating a favourable nurturing environment through a supportive and collaborative relationship with their children that keeps them constantly motivated.  She further stated that the present day milieu demanded effective time-management owing to the disruptive routines composed of distractions that children are exposed to.  Hence modifications and rightful guidance is needed in terms of setting work cycles, prioritization and attitudinal outlook by parents.  The workshop was a grand success and parents carried away new techniques and innovative possibilities that could definitely beget positive results.

                Our school organised an educational trip for the students of class IV and V to the historical place, Jaipur, Eighty students along with nine teachers witnessed three days of non-stop fun and learning.  The trip started with the visit to city palace.  The fact that the Royal family still lives in this palace makes it more interesting.
                The next day, students visited Amber fort.  It stands out amongst the most breathtaking monuments in India.  The students also visited Hawa Mahal and Jal Mahal on the same day.  In the evening the students had a glimpse of Rajasthan culture and cuisine at Chokki Dhani, a beautifully landscaped  area, spread over ten acres dotted with machaans and platforms where different folk artist perform concurrently.  It displays the rich and wonderful cultural heritage of Rajasthan.  On the last day students visited Birla Planetarium.  Here the students went on a tour to the space where they encountered the stars planets and the satellities.  On the whole it was an enriching learning experience for the kids.

                  The inter-house Ad wizard competition was held on 30 Sept.’ 2016 to provide students a platform to demonstrate their understanding of media world of advertisements.  Students of different houses created innovative advertisements on products like ecofriendly bag, Get Fit watch etc. The live advertisements had an excellent input of humour along with a message.  Each house presented a unique piece of performing art.

                    VIS Celebrates International Failure Day

                    13th October 2016, the International Failure Day was celebrated at VIS through various activities, the foremost being, penning down the greatest fear in oneself and thinking of ways to overcome it.  The students gathered courage to write about their fears and eventually made collages out of all the notes.  The collages were then displayed as an act to motivate the students to accept failures in life.

                    Failures help us analyse, introspect and act towards rectification of the problem which will ultimately pave the way to success.

                      Valuable session on the Finnish Education System

                      On 1st October 2016, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura (Director,VIS) shared her experiences of the Educational visit to Finland with the teachers of Venkateshwar International School.

                      She discussed the Finnish Educational system and shared her practical experience and observations of Finnish schools. The Finnish consider their students as their National Heritage.  The Finnish educational system focuses on socio-emotional, language, physical and motor development. Vocational studies lays emphasis on learning of different professions like stitching, carpentery, claywork, basket weaving etc.  With the aim of ‘less is more’ schooling in Finland starts at the age of 7.

                      BALA (Building as learning Aid) concept is also incorp orated in the schools.  The walls and staircases of the school’s building were projected as learning aids.  The Director emphasized that theme based learning should be extended till class V.  All the students should be treated equally and ICT should be integrated with other subjects.  Overall, it was and enriching and thought provoking workshop which inspired the teachers to imbibe the finnish principles in their curriculum.

                          VIS Salutes Senior Citizens!

                          Every year October 1st is observed as the International Day of Elderly people, VIS took an initiative to make the elderly persons aware about how they can lead a happy and a healthy lifestyle. An interactive session was held in the school auditorium for the grandparents of the Primary and Middle Wing.  Dr. Anil Dhall the renowned Director of Cardiovascular Sciences addressed the session. All the grandparents lauded the efforts of the school and appreciated the informative interaction with the cardiologist. The interaction was quite informative and fruitful.

                            In the last week of September, VIS celebrated the importance of keeping a healthy heart.  Under the able guidance of our school Director, Ms. Mrinalini Kaura, the school took an initiative to spread awareness and promote a Heart Healthy planet for those around us by oranising a series of activities:  The students of  Middle Wing expressed  their creativity through poster making activity which was followed by a Special Assembly and walkathon on 30 September 2016.  The Head Girl of the school, Sana Midha hosted the program which included two thought provoking mime acts by the organization Jaagran, emphasizing upon the daily healthy heart habits like consuming less oily and salty food, exercising regularly and to stop smoking. 
                            Renowned cardiologist Dr. Anil Dhall highlighted the threats causing myocardium or heart attack to the students in a riveting talk session. The guest speaker also enthusiastically answered the students’ queries. Tushaar Neb, the Head Boy presented the vote of thanks. The event culminated with a 2 km walkathon around Dwarka by the senior wing students, holding informative banners and posters to sensitize the masses on the way.  Also, a talk session on healthy lifestyle was held for grandparents which was highly appreciated.
